John Lennon

I recently listened to a recording about Lennon’s death to my English classes.

John Lennon died on 8 December 1980.

The murder of Lennon was young boy who had been a fan of Lennon and the Beatles for fifteen years. The killing took place as Lennon and his wife were entering their Manhattan apartment house. It was called the Dakota. Lennon and Yoko Ono had five similar apartments there. Ringo Starr, the drummer of the Beatles, flew from Europe to console Yoko Ono and her five-year-old son after their tragedy. The murder, Mark Chapmen, shot Lennon when he arrived at the doorway. Chapmen didn’t try to flee, and entered no plea. He had been staying in YMCA for one week. Previously, he had borrowed a huge sum of money to arrive to New York and kill Lennon.

A few hours before Lennon was killed, he said that he want to die before his wife, because he couldn’t live without her.

Chapmen graduated from school in 1973. He changed his behavior and became a religious fundamentalist. His last job was a security guard and he bought a revolver in Hawai, where he had been staying since 1977.

Lennon was a member of the Beatles. They broke up in 1971. Lennon’s fortune was huge - about 235 Million Dollars.

Lennon was a naughtly student according to the headmaster of the school which Lennon attended.

John Lennon came up with the name “Beatles”.
